The YWAM base:

The YWAM base is located in the Pellsrus township just at the edge of the town centre in Jeffrey's Bay. The YWAM base shares a plot of land with a local church which shares YWAM’s aims to reach the community for Christ. From humble beginnings the property is being transformed to glorify God and serve the needs of our staff and students more fully each year.

We have acquired an additional building near the base for accommodation - Ikaya Lesizwe (House of the Nations).

Our 'Recipe' (Values):

Our Jeffrey's Bay base is characterized by the following, which have come to be called our 'recipe', or the ingredients that make up our family atmosphere.

  • Relationships are the motivation for all our activities

  • We value all the giftings of the individual and invite the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives - Individuals, family and community are more important than programs or systems

  • Generosity characterizes our attitudes and lifestyle; we seek to meet each others needs - . Generosity characterizes our attitudes and lifestyle. We seek to break the spirit of poverty and uplift our community through generosity.

  • We allow the anointing of the individual to supercede the position they are in, and each member submits to the anointing of the other, as we are all part of the winning team. In everything we do, mentoring others is a consideration. We call others to follow us as we follow Chirst, "each one, teach one." - Mentoring others is an important part of everything we do. Everyone is able to teach someone else what they have learned.

  • We have a heart for hospitality, believing in and celebrating the dignity and value of all individuals made in God's image.

  • Prayer is the foundation of all our relationships, plans and ministry. We believe in hearing God's voice and following His direction. We cultivate a lifestyle of worship and praise to God, dancing with all our strength to the rhythm of the African drum.

We invite you to come visit Jeffrey's Bay. To share in the heritage and be part of the legacy we are building.

The History of Ywam:

Suni

In 1960 God gave a young man, Loren Cunningham, a vision to mobilize and train young people to obey the Great Commission and as a result Youth With a Mission (YWAM) was born. Today YWAM has more than 1000 bases operating in over 135 nations.

YWAM Jeffrey's Bay was commissioned in 1998 by Loren Cunningham, YWAM's South African director and the help of three families. YWAM Jeffrey's Bay was established after God spoke to them about positioning and preparing themselves for a missions movement that would come from Africa and ultimately impact the world. Jeffrey's Bay was chosen because of its location in the Eastern Cape where no YWAM ministries existed at the time and where many communities needed training. The base represents various denominations, ethnicities, and nationalities united around one common purpose: To know God and make Him known!

About Jeffrey's Bay:

Suni

Located along the beautiful coastline of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Jeffrey's Bay is a diverse municipality. Yet after a decade of democracy, it is still recovering from the effects of Apartheid. Together with the community, YWAM hope to bring a picture and model of integration of not only tolerance, but of love for one another. With our many cultures, colors and languages we desire to represent God's true heart for the nations and set a precedent for the celebration of the nations in Revelation 7:9 before the throne of God.

Jeffrey’s Bay is a tourist town, known for its large waves and surf culture. During the holidays (vacations) the town swells, doubling in size overnight, to accommodate holiday-makers escaping the hot temperatures inland. But beyond the sun, the surf and the beautiful landscapes is a community in the need of upliftment.
