The homework club currently works with up to 15 children from the community as well as from the streets to aid them with their academic work. We encourage the children in how important it is to be faithful with their work and so develop Godly principles in their lives. At the same time, we look to encourage them and give them the confidence to excel that they have not had before. It has been amazing to see how, with a little time and kind words they have improved so rapidly and have begun to catch up with all their school work. The children have begun to see a hope for their futures more than just what they see in the community around them. It is very exciting!
We have also now expanded the Homework Club to work alongside the schools, with Tuesday afternoons being based at the local Pellsrus Primary School, and Friday afternoons based at the YWAM Jeffrey's Bay base!
To see the children within homework club greatly improving in their work and ability to the stage where they are all at the correct grade for their age.
To have enough helpers and teachers available that every child can have one on one support and be worked with at the level each one is at. HOWEVER it is vital that those working with the children are passionate about teaching and about children and are able to convey that enthusiasm when working with them.
To be able to aid more children in the community and open the homework club up to wider groups.
To have our own space / classroom - On Fridays we currently use benches in the communal area at YWAM JBay which can cause distraction.
